The meanings behind the marks

Every Kepakiano mark or fabric and design is created with intention. The symbols woven throughout our designs represent something meaningful to us. Whether it be values we live by, a tie back to biblical scripture, memories, things we are passionate about and want to pass on to future generations. Kepakiano Canoe Crest

At the top of our mark, the arched crest is inspired by the raised crest of a traditional Hawaiian feathered mahiole. For Kepakiano, it represents ikaika—strength—along with courage, protection and the warrior spirit carried through generations.

Within the crest is a lauhala weaving pattern. Lauhala is created by weaving individual hala leaves, strand by strand, into something strong and useful. For us, it represents ʻohana: each person carries strength individually, but when our lives are woven together through love, support and shared responsibility, we become stronger as one.

Beneath the crest, the banana leaves honor maiʻa—one of the life-sustaining plants carried across the ocean by Polynesian voyagers. For Kepakiano, they represent nourishment, growth, provision and abundance—not simply financial abundance, but the richness of the ʻāina feeding and sustaining the family.

At the center, seven figures honor our own ʻohana. The canoe represents family, ancestry and moving forward together—each person carrying their part, paddling with shared purpose and helping move the whole family forward.

The water surrounding the canoe reflects movement, perseverance and our connection to the islands. Beneath it all, the roots represent the generations who came before us, the legacy beneath us and the values we carry into what comes next.

Together, every part of the mark tells one connected story: protected by strength, woven together as family, provided for by the ʻāina, guided by those who came before us and always moving forward through faith.

Kepakiano Signature Wordmark

The Kepakiano Signature Wordmark carries the same Old English influence as our Wave K, connecting our family name to identity, inheritance and generational legacy.

At its center, grounding, supporting and lifting up the wordmark, is a lauhala-inspired weave, Lauhala is formed by bringing individual strands together to create something strong, supportive and enduring. Within our mark, it represents family woven together-each person and each story becoming part of one shared foundation.

The weave is intentionally divided and reconnected at the center to tell the story of our blended family. When we met, we each brought daughters of our own. God has since blessed us with two more children, joining what began as two families into one family of seven.

Each strand remains part of its own story, but together we are stronger. The point where the weave reconnects represents the commitment at the center of Kepakiano.

Signature Wave K

Our Signature Wave K brings together identity, inheritance and movement. You will see the Wave K with or without the crown in some designs.

The Old English K draws from the engraved lettering long associated with the Hawaiian heirloom jewelry-pieces given with intention, personalized with family names and carried through generations. For Kepakiano, this letterform represents the legacy held within a name and our responsibility to honor what was passed down to us and what we will pass on after us.

From the base of the K, one continuous wave moves forward. For our family, water represents fluidity, motion and the strength of the ocean. It carries cleansing, renewal and the reminder that we can remain rooted while continuing to grow through seasons of change.

The ocean does not only separate islands 0 it connects the peoples and cultures of the Pacific. Water also holds many of our personal moments: giving makana to the people we love who are no longer with us, offering pule beside the ocean and returning to the shorelinesfor gratitude, clarity and peace.

Together, the K and wave represent a legacy that is rooted but never still-carried forward through faith, strength and purpose.
